Baptism.

If you've decided to follow Jesus and you haven't been baptized as a believer, this is the step the Bible calls you to. We do it in the ocean — because we can.

What baptism is

Baptism is a public sign of a private decision. It doesn't save you — faith in Jesus does. But it's the ordinary way Christians throughout history have said, in front of their community, "I am His." Full immersion, held by a pastor, takes about 20 seconds, changes nothing about salvation and everything about your story.

When we do them

Three baptism Sundays per year — typically the first Sunday of summer, the first Sunday of fall, and Easter. We meet at Carlsbad State Beach right after the 11 AM service.

How to sign up

Fill out a baptism card at the Connect table on a Sunday, or email baptism@carlsbadcoastchurch.com. We'll set up a 20-minute meeting with a pastor to hear your story and answer any questions.

Common questions

I was baptized as a baby. Do I need to do it again?
Your call, prayerfully. We believe baptism is for believers — people who have personally trusted Jesus. If your infant baptism happened before you could make that decision, many Christians in our tradition choose to get baptized again. We won't pressure you either way.
Do I have to say something in front of people?
You can share your story (60 seconds is great) or have a pastor read a short version you wrote in advance. Completely your call.
What do I wear?
Dark clothing you don't mind getting wet. Bring a towel and a change.
